The operation of the drum clean machine relies on a simple yet highly aggressive tumbling action. The machine features a large, horizontally mounted, heavy-duty cylindrical or hexagonal barrel.

Operators load the rough metal castings (along with cleaning media like steel shots or stars, if required) into the drum and secure the heavy-duty door. As the powerful motor rotates the drum at a controlled speed, the parts continuously tumble, rub, and collide against each other and the internal walls. This continuous friction effectively knocks off the hardened foundry sand, sharp burrs, and oxidation scale. Once the cycle is complete, the drum is positioned downwards to easily discharge the cleaned, polished components.
